AKTINES | The Next Greece: Institutional Reform, Competitiveness and the Challenges of the Next Five Years Take Center Stage

The Association of Cypriot Professionals in Greece (ACPG) held its inaugural AKTINES event on Tuesday, 13 October, at the House of Cyprus in Athens, as part of the Cyprus Days program. The event, titled “The Next Greece: From Growth to Institutional Reform – Economy, Technology and Leadership in a Changing World”, launched a new initiative dedicated to strategic dialogue.

AKTINES’s first guest was Michalis Argyrou, Head of the Economic Office of the Prime Minister of Greece, who joined journalist and TV presenter Stella Stylianou for an open discussion on the challenges and prospects facing the Greek economy over the next five years.

Stavros Avgoustides, Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Greece, and Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou, President of ACPG and CEO of Tototheo Global, delivered opening remarks.
The discussion explored the foundations of sustainable and resilient economic growth, with particular emphasis on institutional stability, competitiveness, the efficiency of public administration and the justice system, and the importance of investing in human capital.
Attention also turned to the major challenges shaping the economic and social landscape over the next five years, including geopolitical instability, global uncertainty, housing affordability, demographic trends and the accelerating pace of technological change.

A key theme was ensuring that economic growth translates into meaningful, lasting progress for the country and its citizens. Greece’s convergence toward the European Union average, higher productivity, and greater opportunities for future generations were highlighted as key priorities.
Technological advancement and its impact on the economy, employment and competitiveness also featured prominently, underscoring the importance of adapting to a rapidly evolving global environment.

The discussion further addressed opportunities for stronger cooperation between Greece and Cyprus. Entrepreneurship, technology, professional services, knowledge sharing and greater international engagement emerged as areas with significant potential to strengthen ties between the two countries.

The event concluded with audience questions and an exchange of views on the economic, social, and institutional challenges ahead.

The inaugural AKTINES event marks the start of a new ACPG initiative, designed to establish a lasting platform for meaningful dialogue and idea exchange while further strengthening the bridges between Greece and Cyprus.
